If you don't believe in God, and you die, do you ever wonder what your final moment will be like?

Isn't this hard to fathom? All we've ever known is life, but before we were born, we had no consciousness, we didn't exist in THIS universe. So an atheist must have a hard time fathoming what the final moment will be like. For example: What if you died in an explosion instantly? Your brain wouldn't shut down like a person who dies most other ways. Imagine "instant lights-out." Hard to fathom. I don't think I can take it. Why can't we simple humans understand such matters? Also, if dying isn't a BAD thing, why does EVERY species on the planet, including people, fight to survive as long as possible? I think our subliminal instincts tells us that dying is the worst thing that can happen to a living organism.
