What are your feelings on child abandonment?

I am very much opposed to it, however, I am a firm supporter of the safe haven laws where a parent is immune to criminal prosecution if they leave their baby in a safe location such as a hospital. While I don't like the concept a mother just leaving her child like that and not facing responsibility for her actions, I think it helps to think back to why child abandonment is so horrible. Because it leaves an innocent to die. And when a mother leaves her child in a safe location, it meant she intended it to be discovered and cared for, not just left to fate. And I think I can tolerate withholding punishment for that.
