Have you had Bacterial Vaginosis????????

Called BV for short, I was told that I had this today at the Drs office. I asked the Dr. if it was an STD and he said No. I research it on the internet and everywhere I look it is under the STD section. I know it is a bacteria but anyone having had BV before please tell me if this is an STD???? How long does it take to contract if it is?
